Web Surfers
Web Surfers
The Web Surfers are Ben, Michelle, Nina, Ryan, Shona, Stanley, Lorne and anyone else in grades 7-12 who is interested. The 3rd Wednesday of every month (usually) from 7:00-8:00 we meet, we eat, we talk (a lot!), we decide what to put on the web page. Not just this page, but what Cool Links should be added.
What's New from the Web Surfers: VOYA Web Reviews!
The following reviews were accepted for publication in VOYA (Voice of Youth Advocates), a nationally circulated magazine. This time the subject was "Review Sites;" so whether you're looking for a car or just a good book, find out which sites are the best in the following reviews.

Car and Driver Car and Driver
http://www.caranddriver.com
by Car and Driver

Car and Driver is a very reliable source when it comes to information on the driving world. Simply select any make and Model and this site can give you a plethora of articles relating to your subject. Need to know anything about your favorite car? This is definitely the site for you. This site includes volumes of information, including a glossary, "What's New for 2002", and a very helpful buyers guide for people who can afford to buy cars, unlike myself. The only thing I would like to see on this site is interactive demos of each of the cars. Perhaps a tour of each vehicle, and a flash applet that lets you "touch" and "feel" all of the instruments in the vehicle, using a point and click interface. I would definitely recommend "Car and Driver" to anyone who has the slightest interest in cars. This site could definitely light the fuse you've been willing to develop for years.

Poetry Today Online Poetry Today Online
http://www.poetrytodayonline.com/plr.html
by Poetry Today Online

The site presents a poet's heart with a nice feminine touch. The backgrounds and images are breathtaking and well suited to the air of poetry. Poetry Online reviews poetry Web sites, different types of poems and the people who write them. This site gives poets and poetry everywhere a good name and a flattering complementary sight. I give this site two thumbs up as one poet/writer to another and encourage Mandy to keep doing what she has been doing.

Reading Rants Reading Rants

by Jennifer Hubert

Reading Rants is a really great site. It gives an overview of featured books, but yet it doesn't give away the endings. Jennifer Hubert, the writer, gives the reviews from a teenager's point of view. The reviews are her honest (and sometimes funny) opinions. She chooses many types of books that will pique the interests of any reader. If you need help choosing a good book, this site is for you!

Spiderbrain Book Review
http://www.spiderbrain.co.uk
by Spiderbrain

Spiderbrain may sound like a young child's site, but it is very professional and well done! It has a small group of books and when you "Browse" the titles a review comes up that is to the point and includes a rating scale. The reviews I read do not try to be nice or sensitive, they tell their opinions and don't try to cover it up. They give bad points, if any, and good points, if any. They also give you the chance to review books that you've read.

FilmCritic.com http://www.filmcritic.com/
by filmcritic.com

This Web site was pretty cool. It shows me, after reading the reviews, what movies I should go see that are in the theaters. The cool part about this web page is that it keeps you from wasting your money on movies that aren't even good. The graphics aren't all that interesting and I didn't really want to read a Web site, but then I saw the titles of some interesting movies. When you click on a review, they have really good pictures from the movie, which makes it a little more interesting. Overall the site was great and worth reading despite the graphics. So, if you want to know what movie to watch, go to Filmcrtic.com and see which movies are worth watching.
